Egyszer lent – Commercial Photography

So far, the podcast had only used one illustrative image, showing the up and down button of an elevator. To replace this image, we designed a concept of several images: cover photo and portrait photography of the podcaster, keeping front of our eyes that it has to fit all requests and aspects. My team was working closely with the client and at the end of the process, the we have chosen the version that suited them best. They expressed from the get-go that they wanted the idea to be simple, yet visually strong and easy to understand. Furthermore, we wanted the cover image to stand out among the tiny thumbnail images of the podcasts and to fit the personality of the podcaster Rozi Lovas.

The main sponsor of the series is Generali insurance company, so that means we also wanted to show their red color in an elegant way on the photos, which was also a key part of our concept.

We wanted to have the best outcome for the photos, so we all started the photo shoot by a lengthy location scouting process. At the end we decided together with the production manager to go for the Hajógyári Island in Budapest. The island offers a variety of exciting locations: parks, the Danube bank, and an old bridge. All of these spaces provided a variety of possibilities and backgrounds for close-up shots as well as half-body shots. In view of the cold winter weather, we worked quickly according to a planned schedule, rented a make-up bus, and even gave Rozi a waist warmer in order to keep be best possible comfort for her. Shout out to Rozi and a big thank you for your perseverance!

We are also grateful to our staff for their hard work and enthusiasm. There were so many learner drivers that we deployed everyone to close paths and watch out for each other while taking photos at the location to ensure a smooth workflow and to keep everyone safe.

We worked with natural light, and chose to shoot at sunset – considering early dusk, of course. As we didn’t want high key lighting, we used reflective boards to provide additional light. The main light of the cloudy sky, the extra twilight and the special colors of the setting sun complemented the work of our stylist, who immediately got into the mood of the project and matched the client’s and Rozi’s taste perfectly.

As a final product of our photo shoot we came up with a new photo visualization package for the Egyszer lent podcast series, including a cover image for the podcast thumbnail and lovely portraits for the press. At the time by creating the concept and visualizing the the moodboard, the main focus was showing the contrast of the two direction of UP and DOWN. We wanted to visualize situations where we feel that life is completely turned upside down, but we are trying to keep our head above water no matter what.
